WHAT WE DO

Vision, Mission, and Values are awesome.

But what does Trailblazers ACTUALLY do?

  • Trail Maintenance

We oversee much of the soft surface trail maintenance in Northwest Arkansas, including managing Trailblazers volunteers and our own trail maintenance crews each day, working with municipalities on their maintenance plans, filling in the gaps, and facilitating funding for additional organizations who oversee trail maintenance in their respective areas or trail systems.

  • Trail Building

In some instances we build new trails, connector trails, and features such as bridges on established trails. Our trail crew brings years of hands-on proficiency in design and build, creating purpose built trails with best-class-experience and sustainability in mind.

  • Concept and Design

Building trails is awesome, but the beginning concept and design phase is truly the unsung hero of trail development.  We design trails for all - whether beginner or adaptive-friendly, handcut or flow. During this process, our goal is to be mindful about enhancing connectivity throughout the region through a combination of paved and soft-surface trails.

  • Project Management

We manage paved trail projects in partnership with municipalities, cities, contractors, and planners. From concept, to management, to final product open to the public.

  • Community Classes

We initiate, plan, and operate free classes in our NWA communities that inspire, incentivize, and teach folks how to ride a bike, learn how to work on their bikes, and confidently utilize multi-modal transportation.

  • Land Management

We own and manage land where a significant concentration of trails are built in Northwest Arkansas, protecting and sustaining publicly accessed green spaces in our communities.

  • Paddling

We employ a special projects coordinator focused on WOKA and other paddling/water projects in Northwest Arkansas, protecting our beautiful waterways and creating sustainable pathways for enjoying them.

  • School Crossing Guards

We contract a crossing guards for Bentonville public schools through grant funding, creating safer intersection crossings for kids walking or riding their bikes to and from school.

  • Digital Trail Mapping

We are responsible for pushing the geospatial data out to platforms like Trailforks, MTB project, and Google Maps - effectively keeping our trail systems updated for streamlined way-finding.
